STEM Squad Profile: Soleil Young

My name is Soleil Young and I’ll be starting my Ph.D. in microbiology (MDTP) at UW-Madison this fall. I got my B.S. in biology and B.A. in anthropology from Syracuse University in Spring 2017. During my gap year, I have been working in a lab at Syracuse studying the social behaviors of the bacterium Myxococcus xanthus. I also run a blog, The Matilda Effect, dedicated to highlighting forgotten women in science, and current women in STEM! I love bacteria (if you also love bacteria, I would love to talk about them!) and social theory, and am excited to continue research on bacteria in graduate school. I would also like to grow my blog’s readership and interactions. For this, I would be interested in featuring more women in the STEM community, and be open to writing or art collaborations.
